Developed by the Cardiovascular Data Science (CarDS) Lab at the Yale School of Medicine, PanEcho's potential extends to AI-assisted screening echocardiograms, especially in areas lacking expert readers. Its accuracy, measured by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), averages 0.91 across 18 diagnostic tasks, with near-perfect scores in detecting specific heart conditions such as severe aortic stenosis (0.99 AUC).
PanEcho's development utilized a comprehensive dataset of 1.23 million echocardiogram videos from nearly 34,000 tests, reflecting a diverse patient demographic. This extensive training underpins its ability to estimate critical heart function parameters with minimal error, such as a 4.4% mean absolute error in left ventricle ejection fraction estimation.
