Mullen Automotive has taken a significant step towards strengthening the United States' position in the electric vehicle (EV) sector by submitting a strategic proposal to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The proposal seeks $55 million in matching funds under a program supported by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aiming to enhance domestic battery production capabilities. With an initial investment of $12 million and plans for an additional $43 million, Mullen is focusing on two key facilities in Mishawaka, Indiana, and Fullerton, California.
The Mishawaka facility, once a GM Hummer plant, is set to undergo transformation to support high-volume battery production, targeting an annual capacity of 108,000 battery systems. The Fullerton facility will dedicate its efforts to research, development, and prototype production. This dual-facility strategy not only underscores Mullen's commitment to advancing EV technology but also aligns with national goals to expand clean energy production and domestic manufacturing capabilities.
Mullen's ambitious timeline anticipates the delivery of its first production units by mid-2025, with further expansion planned in the following years.
