Protocase, ProtoSpace Mfg, and 45Drives are set to inaugurate a new U.S. production and assembly facility in Wilmington, North Carolina, on March 27, 2025. This 11,000-square-foot facility, located in Maritime North Business Park, signifies a strategic enhancement to the companies' manufacturing capabilities within the United States. The open house event will gather industry partners, including North Carolina for Military Employment, Bank of America, Wilmington Business Development, and local educational institutions, to showcase the new operations.
Dr. Doug Milburn, Co-founder of Protocase and President of 45Drives, highlights the dual benefits of local production and job creation as central to this expansion. Milburn, with over 35 years in manufacturing, engineering, and software development, will also share insights on scaling technology businesses in non-traditional innovation centers during a presentation at the University of North Carolina Wilmington's Cameron School of Business. His talk, titled 'How to do Innovation in Paradise,' aims to inspire innovation strategies in emerging technological landscapes.
The collaboration among Protocase, ProtoSpace Mfg, and 45Drives—specialists in custom manufacturing, electronic enclosures, and data storage solutions—underscores a shared commitment to bolstering the domestic technology and engineering sectors. This new facility not only promises to streamline operations and enhance customer service but also to invigorate the regional economy through job creation and workforce development. The initiative reflects a broader trend of investing in local infrastructure to foster innovation and economic growth in the technology manufacturing industry.
