Better Trucks has recently introduced Checkpoint, a proprietary address validation technology, marking a significant step forward in tackling the perennial issue of delivery errors in e-commerce shipping. This innovation is particularly timely, given the exponential growth of online shopping and the consequent surge in parcel deliveries, which now exceed 60 million daily in the United States alone. Misdeliveries, often resulting from inaccurate addresses, not only frustrate customers but also impose hefty logistical costs on businesses.
The Checkpoint system leverages artificial intelligence to validate addresses against multiple data sources, including Google Address Validation, ensuring a high level of accuracy from the outset. For addresses that resist automated correction, the system employs a manual research team to rectify discrepancies. Furthermore, it introduces an SMS verification feature, allowing recipients to confirm or adjust their delivery details, including pinpointing their exact location on Google Maps. This multifaceted approach significantly reduces the likelihood of delivery errors.
During the final delivery phase, the Better Trucks Drive app utilizes geofencing technology to ensure that packages are only scanned within a predefined radius of the intended delivery location. This additional verification layer further enhances delivery accuracy, addressing one of the most challenging aspects of last-mile delivery.
Mike Koleno, Better Trucks' Chief Technology Officer, highlights the economic implications of address inaccuracies, noting that bad addresses contribute to 0.5-1.5% of delivery failures, with the cost of returning a misdelivered package being 30% higher than that of a successful delivery. Checkpoint's availability to all shippers using Better Trucks, which services over 40% of U.S. households, coupled with the option for clients to white-label the technology, positions this innovation as a game-changer in the logistics industry.
By addressing the critical challenge of delivery accuracy, Checkpoint not only promises to save companies significant resources but also aims to elevate the customer experience, setting a new standard in e-commerce logistics.
