Mullen Automotive (NASDAQ: MULN) has recently secured new orders for its Mullen ONE Class 1 commercial EV cargo van from universities in Los Angeles and Berkeley, California, marking a significant expansion of its presence in the higher education sector. This development adds to the company's portfolio of academic clients, which already includes renowned institutions such as Princeton University, the University of Virginia, and the University of North Carolina. The trend towards adopting zero-emission vehicles on campuses underscores a national movement towards sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The Mullen ONE cargo van and Mullen THREE cab chassis truck are designed to meet the operational needs of universities while adhering to strict environmental standards. Their appeal is further enhanced by financial incentives like the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit and various state programs, which lower the cost barrier for institutions transitioning to electric fleets. David Michery, CEO of Mullen Automotive, highlighted the company's commitment to supporting universities in achieving their sustainability objectives, emphasizing the role of their vehicles in promoting cleaner campus operations.
With production facilities in Tunica, Mississippi, and Mishawaka, Indiana, Mullen Automotive is strategically positioned to cater to the rising demand for commercial EVs in the education sector. The company's recent milestones, including the start of commercial vehicle production in Tunica and IRS approval for federal EV tax credits, have bolstered its market standing. Additionally, the CARB and EPA certifications for the Mullen ONE and Mullen THREE, along with the HVIP approval for the Mullen THREE, offer further incentives for adoption, such as a $45,000 cash voucher at purchase.
The expansion of Mullen's commercial dealer network to seven dealers ensures robust sales and service support across critical regions, facilitating the adoption of electric vehicles by universities and other institutions. This growing partnership between Mullen Automotive and higher education institutions not only advances environmental goals but also serves as a practical demonstration of clean energy technologies, enriching the educational experience for students.
