The Provincial Council of Valencia has granted aid to promote The Way of the Holy Grail as a strategic cultural and tourist resource for the province. The grant, awarded by Presidential Decree No. 13616 dated November 7, 2025, aims to consolidate this route within the European Cultural Route framework and position Valencian municipalities along its path.
Deputy for Tourism Pedro Cuesta emphasized the initiative's importance in connecting heritage, identity, European culture and sustainable tourism development. The funded actions focus on promotion, communication, dissemination activities, and territorial consolidation of the route. The Cultural Association El Camino del Santo Grial has accepted the grant and committed to compliance with all conditions, including institutional publicity and transparency requirements.
The Holy Grail Way represents a structural opportunity for Valencia's future development with several key advantages. Valencia positions itself as the epicentre and culmination of the route since its Cathedral houses the Holy Chalice, venerated as the Holy Grail. This unique status makes the province a singular point of reference worldwide, reinforcing international visibility within European cultural networks.
The route forms a continuous axis connecting valleys, orchards, the coast, and metropolitan areas, integrating municipalities large and small into a shared cultural narrative. This structure fosters inter-municipal cooperation and territorial balance while promoting a model of cultural, spiritual and regenerative tourism complementary to traditional tourism. The itinerary attracts visitors throughout the year, generating sustained flows beyond high seasons and contributing to tourism deseasonalization.
Throughout the provincial route, historical, religious, landscape and ethnographic heritage resources are activated from the Palancia valley to the orchard and coast. This activation promotes conservation, interpretation and transmission to future generations while fostering local economic development through opportunities linked to cultural and tourist economies. These include accommodation, restaurants, cultural guides, local products, crafts, educational activities and cultural events.
As a European Cultural Route, The Way of the Holy Grail promotes shared values such as peace, hospitality, knowledge seeking and intercultural understanding. The route aligns with European cultural policies and sustainable development goals while strengthening Valencia's position within the Council of Europe's Cultural Routes Programme. This consolidation opens new opportunities for institutional, academic and tourism cooperation on an international scale.
The route passes through eighteen Valencian municipalities, each contributing unique heritage and cultural elements. Starting from Algimia de Alfara as the gateway from Castellón, the route progresses through municipalities including Torres Torres with its medieval castle, Sagunto with its Roman theater and Jewish quarter, and coastal areas like Port of Sagunto with its connection to Mediterranean culture. Massamagrell serves as home to the Cultural Association "The Way of the Holy Grail" and hosts regular cultural events, while Emperador maintains handcrafted route signage and a pilgrim welcome center.
The route culminates in Valencia at the Cathedral of the Holy Chalice, which houses the relic venerated as one of Christianity's oldest artifacts. Valencia serves as the spiritual, cultural and institutional epicentre of the route, hosting international events and serving as a global reference point. The Provincial Council and Cultural Association reaffirm their commitment to transparency, good management of public resources, and promotion of sustainable cultural development based on heritage respect, local identity and territorial cooperation.
