The 35th Education & Careers Expo, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), opened today for a four-day run at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event gathers over 860 organizations from 23 countries and regions, including government bureaus, tertiary institutions, and education centers, to showcase Hong Kong's advantages as an international hub for pursuing higher education and nurturing international talent. This extensive gathering underscores the city's strategic push to solidify its position as a center for global talent and innovation, aligning with policy measures announced in the 2025 Policy Address to strengthen Hong Kong's role as an education hub and talent center.
Innovation and technology are focal points this year, with over 100 activities scheduled. The Expo is divided into "Education" and "Careers" sections, featuring four themed days: "Civil Servants & Public Services," "Next Gen Technologies," "Healthcare & Wellness," and "Greater Bay Area Opportunities." A key highlight is the seminar "A Date with Giants," which explores career and further study opportunities in Hong Kong through exchanges with representatives from leading enterprises like Lenovo and J.P. Morgan, as well as academic institutions such as The University of Hong Kong's Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine. This session offers insights into trends in innovation, technology, and finance, helping students and job seekers expand their professional networks. The "Education" section includes a "Local Studies" zone featuring institutions like the Vocational Training Council (VTC), which focuses on nurturing talent in innovation and green technology. Demonstrations include the SOPHIE 8x solar car model, developed by VTC's Engineering Discipline, showcasing practical applications of new energy theories. The Hong Kong Institute of Construction presents immersive learning experiences with construction robot dogs and humanoid robots, including a "DIY Robotic Dog Workshop" for hands-on public engagement. Additionally, the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong introduces programs in Artificial Intelligence and Enterprise Management and Global Logistics Technology to equip students with emerging skills for the future workplace.
In the "Careers" zone, over 31 government bureaus and departments, such as the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and the Civil Service Bureau, provide information on opportunities in disciplinary forces, professional roles, and administrative grades. A dedicated seminar zone hosts 17 career seminars, including "Administrative Officers Multiverse Explored," which introduces the diverse work within the Administrative Officer grade. The upgraded "CV Clinic" offers services like 1:1 CV consultations and professional portrait photography, leveraging technology to enhance job seekers' competitiveness. Visitors can reserve these services in advance via the Education & Careers Expo website at https://www.hktdc.com/event/hkeducationexpo/en.
Themed day events provide targeted insights: "Next Gen Technologies" on January 23 features speakers from KPMG, Adobe, Google Cloud, L'Occitane Group, and the Hong Kong Society of Artificial Intelligence and Innovation (HKSAII), who will analyze how AI is shaping a new era of teamwork. "Greater Bay Area Opportunities" on January 25 includes talks on entrepreneurship and experiences shared by "Hong Kong Drifters," Mainland Chinese students studying in Hong Kong, facilitated by The China Hong Kong Elite Union. These sessions aim to inspire students from neighboring regions to pursue studies and careers in Hong Kong, further solidifying the city's international post-secondary education hub status.
Throughout the Expo, interactive activities such as a mock courtroom by the Judiciary and a mock TV studio by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) offer hands-on experiences. Admission is free, and visitors can enjoy an "Instant Career Snapshot" AI photo experience. For business leaders and technology professionals, the Expo's emphasis on AI, green tech, and cross-sector collaboration highlights Hong Kong's commitment to fostering a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation in a competitive global market. This event not only provides immediate opportunities for networking and recruitment but also signals Hong Kong's long-term strategy to attract and retain talent essential for economic growth and technological advancement.
