Green Monke USA has entered into a distribution agreement to bring its hemp-derived Delta-9 beverages to Virginia, expanding its availability to consumers across 12 states. The agreement with a major Northeast alcohol and beer distributor provides a growth platform that opens future distribution routes for New York and Massachusetts markets.
The company has fulfilled initial purchase orders for its three leading products: Tropical Citrus, Blue Raspberry, and Mango Guava. These beverages have been specifically adapted to comply with Virginia's regulatory environment, which caps THC content at 2mg per can. This makes Green Monke one of the first non-Virginia brands to enter the market with this formulation.
"This distribution agreement is a transformative step for Green Monke," said Pat Gleeson, Co-Founder & CEO. "It allows us to bring our Happy Sodas to a sophisticated audience in Virginia while laying the groundwork for future expansion into key Northeast markets. We are embracing Virginia's 2mg cap to introduce a truly approachable, sessionable experience." Gleeson emphasized that while some competitors use high CBD ratios to increase allowable potency, Green Monke's formulation focuses on clarity and enjoyment without overwhelming consumers with excessive CBD.
Virginia's regulatory framework, managed by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), creates a stable environment for compliant brands. This regulatory clarity allows Green Monke to introduce its national standards to Virginia's hemp market, reinforcing legal standing for businesses amid federal uncertainty.
The Virginia launch provides access to approximately 8.75 million consumers and holds particular significance as Virginia is the corporate home of Total Wine & More, a leading national retailer with 20 locations across the state. By establishing presence in Virginia, Green Monke brings the category home for one of its most important retail partners.
This expansion represents a strategic move in the evolving hemp beverage market, where regulatory compliance and distribution partnerships are critical for growth. The company's approach of adapting products to specific state regulations while maintaining quality standards demonstrates how brands can navigate the patchwork of state hemp laws to reach broader markets.
Green Monke's portfolio includes Happy Sodas as low-dose alcohol alternatives and has partnered with Oak View Group to offer beverages at select venues in the U.S. and UK. The company also features Cookies x Green Monke Cultivar Sodas through its exclusive partnership with the global cannabis brand Cookies.
