Meyer Wilson Werning has announced the Meyer Wilson Werning Cryptocurrency Fraud Awareness Scholarship, offering $2,500 to a student who proposes real-world solutions to reduce cryptocurrency investment fraud. The initiative comes as cryptocurrency fraud increasingly targets vulnerable individuals through sophisticated online manipulation and fake investment platforms.
The scholarship requires eligible students from accredited U.S. colleges, universities, or graduate schools to submit a 500- to 1,000-word essay by September 15, 2026. Applicants must propose at least three actionable strategies to combat fraud, describe one personal action they could take to protect their families or communities, and explain why their solutions would succeed. Applications, including the essay, proof of enrollment, and unofficial transcripts, must be submitted through the firm's scholarship page.
Courtney M. Werning, Esq., of Meyer Wilson Werning stated that the firm expects cryptocurrency fraud to continue growing in 2026, noting it has become a significant portion of their caseload. The firm's cryptocurrency hacking and theft lawyers have witnessed the devastating effects of such fraud firsthand, including cases involving fraudulent exchanges, phishing schemes, and fake platforms.
The scholarship represents one component of Meyer Wilson Werning's broader efforts to combat financial fraud through public education and legal action. Last year, the firm conducted 11 Continuing Legal Education sessions and has appeared in publications like USA Today to educate both professionals and the public about fraud prevention. These initiatives align with the firm's history of recovering more than $350 million for clients affected by fraud and misconduct.
For business and technology leaders, this announcement highlights the escalating risks associated with cryptocurrency investments and the growing need for protective measures. The scholarship's focus on student-generated solutions suggests that combating this type of fraud requires innovative approaches beyond traditional legal remedies. As cryptocurrency adoption expands, awareness and prevention strategies become increasingly critical for protecting both individual investors and the broader financial ecosystem.
The firm's proactive stance, including Werning's roles on the Public Investors Advocate Bar Association Board of Directors and the FINRA National Arbitration and Mediation Committee, underscores the legal and regulatory challenges posed by cryptocurrency fraud. This scholarship initiative not only provides financial support to students but also engages the next generation in developing practical countermeasures against a persistently evolving threat.
