SMT Scharf AG, a leading provider of transport solutions for underground mining, is implementing further measures under its Strategy 2026, including exclusive sales cooperations in Kazakhstan and South Africa with the CFH Group. The agreement establishes CFH Group as the exclusive dealer for all SMT Scharf products in Kazakhstan through CFT Kazakhstan T.O.O., while SMT Scharf will serve as the exclusive dealer for all CFH Group products in South Africa via its subsidiary SMT Scharf Africa (Pty.) Ltd.
The partnership aims to strengthen local presence, integrate available products across both groups, and leverage synergies. This move aligns with SMT Scharf's strategic focus on optimizing global supply chain efficiency, integrating group locations, and diversifying its product portfolio, particularly in electromobility and intelligent transport solutions to meet growing low-emission demand. The company continues to prioritize existing key markets like China and Poland while exploring future expansion opportunities.
Longjiao Wang, CEO of SMT Scharf AG, stated that the cooperation with CFH Group represents an important step in driving expansion into relevant mining markets worldwide. The Strategy 2026 aims to better serve demand for low-emission, high-quality transport solutions in underground mining and tunnel logistics. This includes targeted development of the product portfolio, especially regarding customer demand in electromobility, and leveraging synergies within the group.
SMT Scharf's portfolio includes captivated railway systems used worldwide in hard coal, gold, platinum, and other metal mines, capable of transporting up to 48 tonnes on gradients up to 35 degrees. Since 2018, the company has expanded to include rubber-tyred diesel and electric vehicles such as loaders, scissor lifts, and underground trucks. The ongoing diversification involves advancing battery-powered transport solutions, including light electric vehicles and battery-powered monorails.
The implications for industry leaders are significant, as this expansion reflects a broader shift toward sustainable mining operations. By enhancing access to efficient, low-emission transport solutions in regions like Kazakhstan and South Africa, SMT Scharf is positioning itself to capitalize on global trends toward environmental responsibility in resource extraction. The exclusive agreements may streamline supply chains and reduce operational costs for mining companies in these markets, potentially setting a precedent for similar partnerships worldwide.
