Angkor Resources Corp. (TSXV: ANK) announced on June 24, 2026, the start of a 2,800-meter diamond drilling program at its Andong Bor copper-gold target in Cambodia. The program targets the Thmei North (TN) copper anomaly, a one-square-kilometer area identified through previous exploration. The drilling is designed to intersect mineralized beds more effectively by orienting holes to the east, based on structural insights gained from 2025 drilling.
The program is divided into two phases to accommodate Cambodia’s seasonal weather and agricultural cycles. The first phase, consisting of three 400-meter holes totaling 1,200 meters, began on June 24 and will be completed before the heavy rains. The second phase, covering the remaining 1,600 meters, is scheduled for early 2027 after fields dry and crops are harvested. Core samples will be logged, photographed, and assayed as the program progresses.
Dennis Ouellette, VP Exploration, explained the drilling strategy: “Our 2025 drilling told us how this system is oriented. The structures controlling mineralization are north-northwest striking and steeply west dipping, so by drilling to the east we put the core across the mineralized beds rather than down them. The best copper sits in the potassic-altered sediments next to the feldspar porphyry diorite dikes, and an eastward orientation lets us cut the most of that favorable host as we pass in and out of the intrusive dikes.”
The Andong Bor license covers 100.28 square kilometers across Oddar Meanchey and Banteay Meanchey provinces. The company’s modified copper porphyry model identifies the best mineralization within potassic-altered sediments adjacent to feldspar porphyry diorite dikes, which vary in width from a few meters to tens of meters. By drilling eastward, Angkor aims to maximize intersections of mineralized sedimentary rock as the core passes through alternating lithologies of intrusive and sedimentary rocks.
Looking ahead, the Thmei South target requires further auger soil geochemistry to extend the existing copper anomaly southward and determine its full extent. Thmei South will be the focus of subsequent drill programs once the current phase is complete.
Angkor Resources is a leading resource explorer and developer in Cambodia, with mineral and energy subsidiaries. Its mineral subsidiary, Angkor Gold Corp. Co., Ltd., holds two mineral exploration licenses in the country with multiple copper and gold prospects. The company’s energy subsidiary, EnerCam Resources Co., Ltd., holds an onshore oil and gas license in Block VIII and is advancing exploration activities, including plans to drill Cambodia’s first privately financed onshore exploratory oil and gas wells under a Production Sharing Contract.
The drill program represents a significant step in advancing the Andong Bor project, which has the potential to contribute to Cambodia’s growing mining sector. For industry observers, the results will provide critical data on the规模和 grade of copper-gold mineralization, influencing future development decisions. The company’s systematic approach to drilling, informed by prior structural analysis, underscores the importance of geological understanding in resource exploration.
