Atlantis USD (USDA), a lawful USD stablecoin designed for the Atlantis ecosystem, has surpassed 1 million active users and holders as of August 20, 2026, according to an announcement from the project. The milestone, achieved within approximately 15 months of its launch in May 2025, also includes a circulating supply of 5 billion USDA, equivalent to $5 billion. This growth positions USDA among the fastest-growing emerging stablecoins, following industry leaders USDT and USDC, and underscores its expanding utility across the Atlantis ecosystem.
The achievement reflects increasing adoption of USDA as the primary payment and settlement currency for the Atlantis Kingdom, a Web3-based legal jurisdiction, and for Atlantis Exchange Pro. The stablecoin's user base spans over 170 countries, indicating global acceptance. Jason Liu, a spokesperson for Atlantis USD, stated, "Surpassing 1 million active users is a testament to the trust and utility our stablecoin provides. We are on track to reach hundreds of millions of users by 2026 or Q2 2027."
USDA distinguishes itself from other stablecoins through two key features. First, it operates without an issuer's ability to freeze, ban, or blacklist wallets, functioning like fiat currency in that respect. This design choice addresses concerns about centralized control and enhances user autonomy. Second, unlike fiat currencies and many stablecoins that have unlimited or flexible supply, USDA has a fixed maximum supply minted at inception, with coins released gradually based on verified market demand. This approach aims to maintain price stability and prevent arbitrary supply increases.
The stablecoin is backed 1:1 by U.S. T-bills, USD stablecoins (USDT, USDC, USDB, PYUSD), and selected cryptocurrencies, ensuring each USDA maintains a value of one U.S. dollar. As a fully transparent and regulated ATC-20 token, USDA is designed to support decentralized trading, global payments, AI-integrated applications, and various decentralized apps (dApps) within the Atlantis ecosystem. Notably, USDA was launched before the GENIUS Act was signed into U.S. law in July 2025, granting it grandfathered lawful status as a USD stablecoin, which may provide regulatory certainty and competitive advantage.
The rapid adoption of USDA could have significant implications for the stablecoin market and the broader financial sector. If USDA continues its growth trajectory, it may challenge the dominance of established stablecoins by offering a more decentralized and supply-constrained alternative. For businesses and consumers, USDA's design could provide a stable digital currency with fewer issuer controls, potentially increasing trust and usage in global payments and decentralized finance (DeFi). However, the long-term impact depends on regulatory developments, market acceptance, and the ability to scale while maintaining stability.
Industry observers will be watching whether USDA can sustain its momentum and achieve the projected user base, which would solidify its position as a major player in the evolving digital currency landscape.
