A new survey commissioned by Borden Cheese reveals that many American parents feel overwhelmed by the pressure to create picture-perfect summer experiences, prompting a shift toward simpler, more relaxed approaches. According to the survey, 72% of respondents believe summers used to be simpler in terms of activities and expectations, while 89% of that group emphasized the importance of their children experiencing simple summers.
The survey, conducted among American parents, found that the pressure to schedule activities, pack endless meals, and keep the family happy can drain the fun out of the season. Jenny Mehlman, senior director of marketing, cheese, taste and flavors at Dairy Farmers of America, noted, “Summer is the time for enjoying the sunshine, fresh air, endless day time and quality time with family and friends. Sometimes we get so caught up in the daily hustle, we forget to slow down and enjoy the little moments.” Borden Cheese aims to help parents drop high expectations and embrace a relaxed summer.
To reclaim family time, 81% of surveyed parents plan to use hacks that simplify summers. The survey highlights three key strategies. First, allowing more flexibility with children’s routines: 45% of parents are embracing later bedtimes, slower mornings, or less structured playtime to enable spontaneous adventures. Second, prioritizing fun over perfection: 39% of parents plan to be more lenient with expectations, focusing on connection rather than elaborate vacations or curated calendars. Third, planning simpler meals: one-third of respondents will make simpler meals a regular part of their menu, with 84% relying on quick solutions like mac and cheese, deli meat wraps, and cheese boards at least once per week during summer.
Borden Cheese is supporting this trend with its Individually Wrapped Singles, offering family-friendly recipes, easy meal hacks, and weekly giveaways.
