BRAIN Biotech AG Appoints Dr. Sven K. Weber as CEO, Succeeding Adriaan Moelker

BRAIN Biotech AG, a leader in specialty enzymes and bioprocess development, has announced a leadership transition as Dr. Sven K. Weber will succeed Adriaan Moelker as CEO on October 1, 2026. Moelker, who led the company for six years, will retire at the end of his contract term in January 2027 but will remain as a senior advisor until then.

Dr. Weber brings extensive experience from BASF Group, where he most recently served as Vice President responsible for the global enzyme business. In that role, he drove innovation-led growth, significantly increasing revenue and earnings. His background also includes leadership at Chemetall GmbH, managing the global automotive OEM business, and heading contract research at hte GmbH. He holds a diploma and doctorate in chemistry from the University of Heidelberg and completed an executive program at SGMI Management Institute in St. Gallen.

Dr. Michael Majerus, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, thanked Moelker for repositioning BRAIN as an integrated manufacturing company in enzymes and successfully monetizing projects from the BRAINBioIncubator. He expressed confidence in Dr. Weber, stating: “With Dr. Weber, we have been able to bring on board an internationally experienced leader with proven expertise in the industrial enzyme business. He will continue implementing the company’s strategic direction, tap into additional growth potential, and accelerate its operational implementation.”

Dr. Weber commented: “BRAIN Biotech has a strong technological foundation and excellent scientific expertise. Together with the group’s employees I intend to build on this in order to accelerate growth, sustainably strengthen profitability, and bring innovative products to market more quickly for the benefit of our customers. My goal is to develop BRAIN into a leading provider of specialty enzymes in selected application areas and to tap into additional growth potential through the BRAINBioIncubator.”

The leadership change comes at a pivotal time for the biotech industry, where specialty enzymes are increasingly critical for sustainable industrial processes. For business leaders, this transition underscores the importance of experienced leadership in navigating enzyme market growth. The company's focus on the BRAINBioIncubator could drive new product development, impacting sectors from food to life sciences. With Dr. Weber's background in scaling enzyme businesses, BRAIN Biotech is poised to strengthen its market position and potentially influence industry standards for bio-based solutions.

BRAIN Biotech AG is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (ticker BNN) and reported revenue of €49.6 million in the 2024/25 fiscal year with around 280 employees. The group operates fermentation facilities in the UK and additional production sites in Europe and the US. More information is available at www.brain-biotech-group.com.
