The academy's new offerings include distinct program tracks: the Young Warriors program for younger children, focusing on foundational movement, listening skills, and basic self-defense; and the Adult Warriors program, which addresses stress management, physical conditioning, and goal-setting through practice. Love emphasized that the curriculum is structured to meet students at their developmental level, recognizing that a six-year-old and a forty-year-old require different entry points into martial arts.
Love's martial arts journey began more than 40 years ago under strict traditional instructors who demanded physical, mental, and emotional growth. Each successive rank required years of refinement and demonstrated leadership ability. When he established South Lake Karate Academy 25 years ago, Love aimed to provide Clermont families with the same disciplined, character-focused training that had shaped his own life. As a karate instructor in Clermont, FL, Love noted that the community needed more than technique; it needed a program grounded in a defined philosophy.
"I started this school because martial arts gave me something I could not find anywhere else, and I wanted to give that to families here in Clermont," Love said. "Over 25 years, I have watched more than a thousand students walk through that door and leave more capable, more confident, and more resilient than when they came in. That is the only number that matters to me."
The philosophy behind the program centers on using physical training as a vehicle to develop confidence, discipline, respect, and mental fortitude. Belt ranks serve as markers of internal development as well as technical skill. Love holds his 6th-degree black belt as both a credential and a commitment, placing him among a small group of practitioners at that level in the region.
