HKTDC Fairs Open in Hong Kong, Showcasing Global Flavors and Wellness Trends

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) opened its Food Expo, Beauty & Wellness Expo, and Home Delights Expo today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, running concurrently for five days until August 17. The fairs feature more than 1,850 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions, centered on the theme “Live Well. Stay Well” to promote healthy and quality living.

Dr Jonathan Choi, HKTDC Council Member, said at the opening ceremony: “Today, wellness has become an integral part of everyday life. It is reflected in the food and beverages we enjoy, the way we care for our home and how we nurture our physical and mental well-being.” The fairs are complemented by five themed days, each focusing on different aspects of wellness, from balanced nutrition to relaxation.

The opening day, “Happy Eat Happy Life,” highlights wellness-focused food products such as cistanche health drinks, ready-to-eat bird’s nest with rock sugar, and organic dried blueberries. The Home Delights Expo features a high-speed food processor that prepares texture-modified meals for the elderly and those with swallowing difficulties, while the Beauty & Wellness Expo offers free health assessments and consultations.

The second day, “The World in Blink,” showcases global delicacies including limited-harvest honey from South Africa, crafted chocolates served on Finnair, and organic cacao nibs from Peru. Asian flavors include pandan chiffon cakes from Singapore and Korean water-shake probiotic yogurt. The Beauty & Wellness Expo displays innovative beauty devices and clear aligners, along with cultural activities like embroidery workshops and ethnic dance performances.

“Coffee or Tea?” day on August 15 introduces a dedicated Coffee Zone featuring Yunnan’s truffle dried mushroom flavored drip coffee, Myanmar Arabica beans, and Kona coffee from Hawaii. The Hong Kong International Tea Fair presents rare teas such as purple bud raw Pu'er tea from Kunlu Mountain, white tea from Laos, and Ceylon tea from Sri Lanka. New pavilions include the Chinese Mainland Matcha Pavilion from Guizhou and Zhejiang, and the Yixing Zisha Teaware Pavilion.

The fourth day, “Stay Fresh, Stay Ahead,” focuses on premium fresh produce. Hong Kong’s Fish Marketing Organization and Vegetable Marketing Organization introduce their new unified brand “Hong Kong Harvest.” The Chinese Mainland pavilion presents hundreds of regional delicacies, including Yunnan ham, Xinjiang wines, and Qingyuan chicken. The Gourmet Zone celebrates its 15th edition with 15 star chefs demonstrating exquisite dishes.

The final day, “Let’s Chill,” introduces the “Stay Relax” zone in the Beauty & Wellness Expo with products like red-light therapy pods, and the Home Delights Expo hosts “Go Sleep Exp” by the Sleep Health Association, exploring the sleep journey. The Food Expo also launches a Dessert and Gelato Theme with over 100 desserts and specialty ice cream flavors.

For trade visitors, Food Expo PRO introduces a new “Meat Zone” and a “Food Science and Technology Zone” focusing on alternative foods and food-service technologies. For the first time, pet food products are featured, with a Hong Kong exhibitor using patented packaging technology to preserve nutritional value without cold-chain logistics. The halal food label returns for the third year, with over 130 exhibitors from various markets.

The International Conference of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM) also began today, expanded to three days with over 30 speakers. The conference focuses on “Clinical Translation, Regulatory Policies and Global Innovative Pathways of Traditional Medicine,” facilitating exchange between Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and international regulatory authorities.

Sophia Chong, HKTDC Executive Director, emphasized Hong Kong’s role as a bridge connecting the Chinese Mainland and international markets: “As an international business centre and a key food trading hub in the region, Hong Kong has long served as a platform for global food and catering enterprises seeking to expand.” The fairs are expected to boost cross-border collaboration and support the high-quality development of the food and health industries.
