The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will host the fifth International Healthcare Week from May 11 to 31, 2026, positioning Hong Kong as a premier destination for medical technology, investment, and innovation. The event includes two flagship gatherings: the sixth Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH), jointly organized with the HKSAR government, and the 17th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair), co-organized with the Hong Kong MedTech Association. These concurrent events aim to provide a comprehensive platform covering the entire healthcare industry chain, from R&D and investment to manufacturing and services.
Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC, emphasized the transformative changes in healthcare and Hong Kong's strategic advantages. "Hong Kong, by leveraging its preeminence as an international financial centre, its world-class research ecosystem and its unique positioning bridging the Chinese Mainland and the world, serves as an ideal platform for scientific excellence, strategic investment and financing, and international trade for medical and healthcare innovation," she said. The events align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, focusing on high-growth areas such as biopharmaceuticals, AI-empowered healthcare, the silver economy, and modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.
The ASGH, themed "Fuelling Healthcare Breakthroughs," will feature prominent speakers including Nobel Prize laureate Professor Michael Levitt, who will share insights on computational biology and the transformative impact of technology on healthcare. The opening session includes remarks from HKTDC Chairman Professor Frederick S. Ma, Chief Executive John Lee, and Vice Minister of the National Health Commission Professor Zeng Yixin. Plenary sessions will address pandemic preparedness and cross-sector collaboration to commercialize research, with speakers from GSK, the Hevolution Foundation, JP Morgan, and others. A dedicated CSO Insights session will explore AI drug discovery, oncology, and precision medicine.
The summit will also host thematic sessions on AI in healthcare, the silver economy, and China's healthcare industry trends, including the development of traditional Chinese medicine. The InnoHealth Showcase will feature innovations from 180 companies across 11 countries and regions, with project pitching and deal-making sessions to connect startups with investors. The "GoGlobal Connect" Zone and Business of Healthcare Advisory Zone will provide guidance on overseas expansion and fundraising.
The Medical Fair, themed "Innovations Boosting Smart Health Experience," will gather 300 exhibitors from 10 countries, including new participants from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Vietnam, and the United States. Key categories include MedTech, GeronTech, and Preventive Healthcare. Highlights include a smart health wearable watch integrating Chinese and Western medicine, an AR surgical platform for orthopaedic surgeons already used in local hospitals, and a world-first smart knee brace with AI and wearable technology. The fair will also host over 50 forums on mental health innovation, gerontechnology, and medtech solutions for the Greater Bay Area.
The events underscore Hong Kong's role as a superconnector and super value-add in the global healthcare landscape, driving innovation and investment in Asia. For more information, visit the Asia Summit on Global Health and Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair websites.
