Huawei has officially launched the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN, marking a significant milestone as the first smartphone to feature the LogicFolding Tau (τ) Chip, which now enters mass commercialization. The device, unveiled on September 7, 2026, in Guangzhou, China, represents a leap in tri-fold smartphone technology, combining cutting-edge hardware, AI capabilities, and a refined aesthetic.
The Mate XT 2 debuts with a wing-like tri-fold design that opens from both sides, offering a more intuitive unfolding experience. Drawing on Chinese aesthetics, the back panel features a cloud pattern crafted using Brocade Cloud craftsmanship, available in Purple, White, and Black. The camera ring inherits the iconic Star Diamond Glow design, made from Yttrium Crystal and fired at 1,800°C, with 33 star diamond facets created through eight steps of fine polishing.
Under the hood, the Mate XT 2 is powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, delivering a 42% improvement in overall device performance compared to the previous generation, thanks to deep collaboration across hardware, software, chips, and cloud. The LinxiCore CPU and Ultra-smooth HUAWEI Ark Engine enable faster large-file loading and superior multitasking. The Maleoon GPU features doubled computing units and cache, supporting 50 MRPS hardware-level real-time ray tracing for immersive gaming. The HUAWEI Da Vinci Architecture NPU brings a leap in on-device AI computing, natively supporting the Pangu 30B-A2B MoE LLM for smart experiences like AI album management with Celia.
The device is built with the Xuanwu Ultra-Durable Tri-Fold Architecture, re-engineering hinge and screen technology for layered protection. It is the first tri-fold phone to support IP58/59 dust and water resistance. The cover screen, made of Xuanwu Kunlun Glass, resists scratches and impacts, with anti-glare technology for clear visibility in sunlight.
