McEwen Inc. Announces COO Retirement and Leadership Promotions to Meet 2030 Production Goals

McEwen Inc. (NYSE: MUX) (TSX: MUX) has announced the planned retirement of its Chief Operating Officer, William Shaver, after a career spanning more than 55 years in the mining industry, including the past four years with the company. Shaver will remain on the board of McEwen Copper, a subsidiary in which McEwen holds a 46.3% interest. The transition comes as the company focuses on achieving its ambitious production target of 250,000-300,000 gold equivalent ounces annually by 2030.

In conjunction with Shaver's retirement, McEwen has promoted three executives to new leadership positions. Channa Kumarage has been appointed Vice President of Operations, Kevin Bromfield as Vice President of Development Projects, and Zahir Jina as Vice President of Permitting, Government Relations and Sustainability. These roles are designed to strengthen the company's capabilities in production, mine construction, and permitting, which are critical to advancing its growth strategy.

The leadership changes align with McEwen's broader operational objectives, which include expanding its gold and silver production base and advancing its large copper development project, Los Azules, in Argentina. The company recently released the feasibility study for Los Azules, which is designed to be one of the world's first regenerative copper mines and aims to be carbon neutral by 2038. The project is a key component of McEwen's portfolio, with the implied value of its ownership interest estimated at US$456 million (US$7.67 per share) based on the last financing for McEwen Copper.

McEwen's strategic focus also includes reactivating its El Gallo Mine in Mexico and enhancing its assay technology capabilities through a 27.3% stake in Paragon Advanced Labs Inc., which deploys PhotonAssay units globally. The company believes this technology is poised to become the new industry standard for assaying precious and base metals.

The leadership promotions signal a deliberate effort to ensure operational continuity and drive efficiency as McEwen pursues its long-term production goals. The company's chairman and chief owner, Rob McEwen, has invested over US$250 million personally and takes a salary of $1 per year, aligning his interests with shareholders. His objective is to build MUX's profitability and share value, and eventually implement a dividend policy, as he did while building Goldcorp Inc.

The mining industry is facing increasing pressure to improve productivity and sustainability, and McEwen's leadership changes reflect a commitment to meeting these challenges. By promoting internal talent with expertise in operations, development, and permitting, the company is positioning itself to execute its growth plans efficiently. The focus on permitting and government relations is particularly important given the regulatory complexities of mining projects in Argentina and Mexico.

As McEwen works toward its 2030 production target, the new leadership team will play a pivotal role in advancing key projects, optimizing existing operations, and navigating the regulatory landscape. The company's diverse asset base, spanning gold and silver mines in Nevada, Ontario, Manitoba, and Argentina, along with the copper project, provides a solid foundation for growth. Investors and industry observers will be watching closely to see how these leadership changes translate into operational performance and shareholder value.
