Medios AG Closes Aschaffenburg Facility, Consolidates Manufacturing Network Amid Margin Pressure

Medios AG has announced the closure of its Aschaffenburg facility, operated by its wholly owned subsidiary Medios Solutions Aschaffenburg GmbH, as part of a broader optimization of its manufacturing network in Germany. The company is consolidating patient-specific manufacturing at its remaining locations, with production already relocated and supplies to pharmacies and hospitals guaranteed, according to a press release.

The Aschaffenburg site accounted for approximately 10% of the production volume of Medios Group’s German manufacturing facilities. The closure affects 32 employees, for whom Medios is seeking to provide fair compensation. The decision comes as the business of patient-specific formulations faces sustained margin pressure, particularly due to price regulatory adjustments. The company is now countering this with measures to increase efficiency through its Operational Excellence Program, which aims to sustainably strengthen profitability.

Medios operates a network of six GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) manufacturing facilities for patient-specific therapies in Germany. The Aschaffenburg site had recently been operating at below-average profitability amid declining capacity utilization, making continued economic operation no longer feasible. Structural renovation work currently required at the site accelerated the implementation of the closure decision.

Thomas Meier, CEO of Medios AG, stated, “With a view to ensuring a reliable supply for our customers and maintaining capacity utilization at all sites, we are now optimizing our successful regional presence strategy and consistently developing it further. With Mannheim and Stuttgart, we have two high-performing Medios sites in southern Germany, ensuring that a reliable supply is maintained.”

This consolidation is a key step in Medios’ Operational Excellence Program, which is designed to enhance profitability across the company’s manufacturing network. The move underscores the challenges specialty pharmaceutical companies face in Germany due to regulatory price adjustments that compress margins for patient-specific therapies. For industry leaders, this signals a trend toward network optimization and efficiency gains as companies adapt to a tightening regulatory environment.

Medios AG is a leading provider of Specialty Pharma in Europe, with locations in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain. The company supports key partners in the supply chain with innovative solutions and intelligent services, focusing on individualized medicine to make innovative therapies available to pharmacies, specialist practices, and pharmaceutical companies. As Germany’s first listed specialty pharmaceutical company, Medios shares are listed on the regulated market of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (Prime Standard) and included in the SDAX selection index.

The company has outlined key events for the 2026 financial year, including the Half-Year Financial Report on August 12, participation in the Berenberg and Goldman Sachs 15th German Corporate Conference in Munich from September 21 to 23, the Medios Capital Markets Day in Breda on September 28/29, and the Quarterly Statement as of September 30 on November 10.
