Trilogy Metals Advances Discussions with U.S. Department of War for Strategic Investment

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) announced that it is continuing discussions with the U.S. Department of War (DOW) regarding a proposed strategic equity investment of approximately US$35.6 million. The investment is intended to support exploration and development of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP) in northwestern Alaska. The company confirmed that the letter of intent signed in October 2025 remains in effect as both parties advance negotiations.

The proposed funding would bolster Trilogy's efforts at the UKMP, which is located within the Ambler Mining District, one of the richest and most prospective copper-dominant districts globally. The district hosts polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization. Trilogy's exploration has focused on two key deposits: the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit. These deposits are situated within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares.

Trilogy Metals holds a 50 percent interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns a 100 percent interest in the UKMP. The remaining 50 percent is held by South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company that formed a joint venture with Trilogy in December 2019. Ambler Metals has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, an Alaska Native Corporation, to ensure exploration and development activities are conducted in cooperation with local communities.

The DOW investment, if finalized, would provide significant capital to advance the UKMP, which is strategically important for domestic supply of critical minerals such as copper, zinc, and cobalt. These minerals are essential for renewable energy technologies, electric vehicles, and national defense applications. The investment aligns with U.S. government initiatives to secure a reliable domestic supply chain for critical minerals, reducing reliance on foreign sources.

For industry stakeholders, this development underscores the growing interest of the U.S. government in supporting domestic mining projects that contribute to national security and economic resilience. The Ambler Mining District's potential to become a premier North American copper producer could have far-reaching implications for the clean energy transition and the technology sector, which relies heavily on these metals.

Trilogy Metals emphasized that its vision is to develop the Ambler Mining District into a leading copper production hub while protecting and respecting subsistence livelihoods. The company remains committed to working with local communities and stakeholders to ensure sustainable development.

While the investment is not yet finalized, the ongoing discussions indicate a strong alignment between the DOW's objectives and Trilogy's strategic goals. If completed, the funding would accelerate exploration and development activities, potentially bringing the UKMP closer to production and contributing to a more secure and sustainable mineral supply chain.
