Viromed Medical AG, a medical technology company specializing in cold plasma technology, has announced the appointment of Prof. Dr. Michael A. Rubhausen to its Medical Advisory Board, effective immediately. The physicist and expert in spectroscopy will contribute his scientific knowledge to help the company evaluate research questions at the intersection of material properties, spectroscopy, and cold plasma.
Prof. Rubhausen heads the Optics Working Group at the Institute of Nanostructure and Solid-State Physics at Universität Hamburg and serves as the Institute’s Managing Director. He is also affiliated with the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL). His research focuses on modern spectroscopic methods, including Raman spectroscopy and ellipsometry, which he uses to study superconductors, quantum materials, and biological and inorganic samples at large-scale research facilities such as PETRA III and FLASH.

Prof. Rubhausen’s interdisciplinary work includes more than 180 publications with approximately 4,000 citations, including contributions to renowned journals such as Physical Review Letters, JACS, Angewandte Chemie, Nature Chemistry, Nature Physics, Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, and Nature Communications. Additionally, he is involved in developing AI-supported analysis workflows for complex and high-dimensional datasets, a skill that aligns with Viromed’s innovative approach.
