Comcast has announced a major expansion of its fiber network in Franklin County, Idaho, targeting completion by early 2026. This initiative will extend high-speed internet services to Preston, Franklin, and surrounding areas, offering residents and businesses access to Xfinity Internet and Mobile, alongside Comcast Business Internet and Mobile solutions. The project, supported by a public-private partnership with the State of Idaho and funded through the Idaho Capital Projects Fund Broadband Infrastructure Grant, is a pivotal move towards eliminating the digital divide in rural Idaho.
Chris Larsen, a Preston City Council Member, highlighted the significance of this expansion for providing residents with more internet service options and connecting the community to the global network. The project is expected to stimulate local business growth and support entrepreneurs by enhancing digital infrastructure.
