The Association of Pickleball Players (APP) has revealed an ambitious plan to expand its tournament calendar in 2025, nearly doubling its current schedule with almost 50 world-class competitions. This expansion marks a significant milestone for pickleball, a sport experiencing rapid growth in popularity across the United States and internationally.
Ken Herrmann, Founder of the APP, highlighted the organization's readiness for this growth, emphasizing the APP's role in setting the standard for pickleball worldwide. The 2025 calendar will feature 14 nationally televised APP Tour events, including four APP Tour Majors and eight USA Pickleball 'Golden Ticket' tournaments, with increased prize purses to attract top talent.
Beyond the marquee events, the APP is introducing over 20 new competitions across the U.S., catering to tens of thousands of players at all levels. This initiative aims to address the surging demand for competitive opportunities among players of all ages and skill levels.
The APP's commitment to expanding pickleball's visibility includes broadcasting over 55 hours of pickleball action in 2025, showcasing 14 APP Tour events on national television. Tom Webb, APP Chief Marketing Officer, noted the importance of this media exposure in elevating the sport and providing professional players with the platform they deserve.
Player development is another cornerstone of the APP's expansion, with an enhanced APP Next Gen schedule for young players and the launch of the APP Academy in Fort Lauderdale. The academy will offer specialized training for aspiring players, further solidifying the APP's role in nurturing the sport's future stars.
Internationally, the APP plans to host several global events in 2025, reinforcing its position as a key driver of pickleball's worldwide popularity. With these initiatives, the APP is not only responding to the sport's current momentum but also laying the groundwork for its sustained growth and mainstream recognition.
