Downtown Neighbouring Rights (DNR) has significantly bolstered its portfolio by announcing a series of high-profile signings and cross-company partnerships, including deals with Academy Award-nominated artist ANOHNI, Position Music, and TH3RD BRAIN Records. This move underscores DNR's commitment to building a comprehensive global ecosystem for independent creators and music businesses.
Under the new international neighbouring rights agreement, DNR will manage ANOHNI's entire catalog, which includes her Academy Award-nominated song 'Manta Ray', Mercury Prize-winning album 'I Am a Bird Now', and her latest album 'My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross', acclaimed as Album of The Year 2023 by The New Yorker. ANOHNI, a British-born singer, songwriter, and visual artist, has been a Downtown Music Publishing client since 2022. Her partnership with DNR marks a significant step in ensuring artists receive due recognition and compensation for their work through neighbouring rights, an often overlooked revenue stream.
In addition to ANOHNI, DNR has entered into an international agreement with Position Music, a publisher and label known for its expertise in licensing and synchronization. Position Music's roster includes Welshly Arms, 2WEI, and Ryan Oakes, among others. The company has also expanded its label division, signing artists like Kyle Dion and Elohim, further diversifying its portfolio.
Another notable addition to DNR's clientele is TH3RD BRAIN Records, an independent label representing artists such as Emmit Fenn and Zerb. TH3RD BRAIN's single 'Mwaki' achieved significant success, topping Spotify's Viral 50 Global and ranking high on Global Shazam charts. This partnership highlights DNR's strategy to support and empower artists and labels across the music industry's spectrum.
Dean Francis, General Manager of Downtown Neighbouring Rights, expressed pride in the division's achievements and its role in Downtown's broader ecosystem. 'Downtown Neighbouring Rights has had a great start to 2024 and continues to sign exceptional global talent that serve as a testament to our expertise and offering,' Francis stated. These developments not only enhance DNR's reputation but also reinforce the importance of neighbouring rights in providing artists with additional income streams and recognition.
