Fitzroy Minerals Inc. has commenced a 750 line-kilometer mobile magnetotelluric heliborne survey at its Caballos Copper Project in Valparaiso, Chile. The survey, conducted by Expert Geophysics Surveys Inc., is scheduled to cover the entire project area within two days, with interpreted results expected in March 2026.
The MobileMT technology is designed to identify subsurface geologic structures, alteration halos, and contrasting lithologies. When combined with complementary VLF-EM data that provides near-surface electromagnetic information, the methods should yield increased resolution of shallow features. This integrated approach aims to identify deep-seated faults, lithological contacts, and structures controlling mineral systems from surface to depths of approximately 1 to 2 kilometers, depending on the conductivity distribution of the local geology.
Merlin Marr-Johnson, President and CEO of Fitzroy Minerals, stated that the Mobile MT data is expected to provide a three-dimensional image of the Caballos Project area, including areas beneath younger volcanic rocks to the east. The company hopes the survey will assist in tracing the outline of mineralized breccias already intersected through drilling and help vector toward the origin of these breccias, which contain clasts of mineralized porphyry rocks. MobileMT is known for identifying areas of electrically conductive sulphides potentially linked to mineralized porphyry intrusive centers, and resistive bodies representative of intrusions.
For business and technology leaders monitoring the mining sector, this development represents the increasing integration of advanced geophysical technologies in mineral exploration. The ability to map subsurface structures to significant depths with helicopter-based surveys reduces exploration time and costs while potentially increasing discovery rates. The copper focus of this project aligns with global demand for the metal, which is essential for electrification and renewable energy infrastructure.
The implications for the mining industry include potential improvements in exploration efficiency and success rates through advanced geophysical methods. For investors and industry observers, the results expected in March 2026 will provide critical data about the Caballos Project's potential. The company's broader portfolio includes the Buen Retiro Copper Project near Copiapo, Chile, the Polimet Gold-Copper-Silver project in Valparaiso, Chile, the Taquetren Gold Project in Rio Negro, Argentina, and the Caribou Project in British Columbia, Canada.
