The Drug-Free World Foundation brought its drug-prevention education campaign to the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Heritage Festival on June 27–28, reaching more than 1,000 festival attendees and FIFA World Cup fans with educational materials promoting informed, drug-free choices. The two-day event took place at El Pueblo de Los Angeles, the historic 44-acre living history museum and monument in Downtown Los Angeles. The festival coincided with a FIFA World Cup watch party and Fan Zone across the street at Union Station, giving volunteers an opportunity to engage a diverse audience of Angelenos, families, soccer fans, and visitors.
Thousands attended the festival over the weekend, with many touring the Drug-Free World Mobile Exhibit. Through outreach at the festival and the nearby FIFA Fan Zone, volunteers distributed Truth About Drugs educational booklets and generated meaningful conversations with people who had personal and professional experience with the effects of drug abuse. One attendee, a retired social worker with over 30 years of experience working with teenage girls struggling with pregnancy and drug addiction, expressed strong support for the materials and took 200 booklets to place in her church. A physician's assistant who visited the exhibit also supported the program and later ordered an Educator's Kit from the organization's website.
The exhibit provided a platform for Spanish-speaking community members to share personal stories about loved ones affected by or lost to drugs. Volunteers also developed relationships with local businesses along Olvera Street, where several store owners allowed educational displays on their counters and food trucks, extending the campaign's reach beyond the festival. By the end of the weekend, Drug-Free World had reached approximately 1,000 people, provided tours of the Mobile Exhibit, and collected pledges from individuals committing to a drug-free life. In total, 13,700 Truth About Drugs booklets were distributed, and the campaign resulted in a new community partnership to extend access to drug-prevention education at future events.
The initiative underscores the importance of community engagement in addressing drug abuse, a persistent issue with significant social and economic impacts. By providing accessible education, Drug-Free World aims to empower individuals to make informed decisions. The organization's efforts align with broader public health strategies that emphasize prevention and awareness. For business and technology leaders, this news highlights the role of grassroots outreach in tackling societal challenges, and the potential for partnerships between nonprofits and local businesses to amplify impact.
The Drug-Free World Foundation is dedicated to educating youth and adults about the truth regarding drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free lives.
