Garuda Indonesia has announced an initiative offering 170,845 domestic roundtrip seats at no additional fare to eligible international passengers flying from 14 origin cities across 10 countries. The program, available for travel from 1 August to 30 November 2026, allows passengers holding roundtrip international tickets to Indonesia to add a domestic roundtrip journey as part of their itinerary, encouraging longer stays and multi-destination travel.
The free domestic flight program, branded with the spirit of #DiscoverMoreIndonesia, is designed to attract international arrivals to visit more than one destination during a single trip. By connecting Garuda Indonesia’s international network with domestic routes, the initiative supports a broader distribution of tourism spending beyond major gateways such as Jakarta and Denpasar. It also provides additional connectivity for Indonesian diaspora, migrant workers, and returning citizens who wish to travel to their home regions or other destinations.
“Indonesia offers far more than a single destination. By making onward domestic travel easier, we want international travellers to stay longer, explore more regions and experience more of what Indonesia has to offer,” said Prina Eka Putri, Garuda Indonesia Marketing Group Head. She emphasized that the integration of international and domestic connectivity provides a differentiated proposition as regional destinations compete for international visitor traffic.
The allocation of more than 170,000 seats is aimed at increasing the economic value generated by each international arrival. “The opportunity is not only to bring more travellers into Indonesia, but to enable each arrival to reach more destinations,” said Agny Gallus Pratama, Garuda Indonesia Southeast Asia Branch Manager and Head of the Free Domestic Flight Project Management Office. “When visitors travel further and stay longer, the economic impact can extend to hotels, restaurants, local transportation, tourism operators and MSMEs across the regions.”
By linking international traffic more directly with its domestic network, Garuda Indonesia expects the program to help disperse visitor flows and tourism spending more widely across the archipelago. This initiative also supports the airline’s competitiveness in international markets by leveraging its extensive domestic network to offer travellers easier access to multiple destinations within a single Indonesia itinerary.
For international business leaders and travelers, this move could significantly reduce the cost of exploring Indonesia, potentially increasing the country's appeal as a multi-destination hub. For the tourism industry, the program may lead to a more even distribution of tourist revenue, benefiting less-developed regions and local economies. The airline’s strategy highlights a growing trend among carriers to use domestic connectivity as a competitive advantage in attracting international visitors.
