The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) celebrated its 60th anniversary on June 17, 2026, with two key events: the Next 60 Forum and the 60th Anniversary Cocktail Reception. The events drew over 1,000 guests from political and business sectors, including HKSAR Secretary for Justice Paul Lam, who officiated at the reception.
The forum, moderated by HKTDC Chairman Prof Frederick Ma, featured former chairmen Dr Victor Fung, Peter Woo, Jack So, and Vincent Lo, together representing 480 years of combined experience. Participants reviewed Hong Kong's transformation from a manufacturing base into an international financial and trading hub, and explored how the city can continue to serve as a superconnector and super value-adder in an evolving global landscape.
Prof Ma emphasized that under 'One Country, Two Systems', Hong Kong is guided by national development and globally responsive, providing a strong foundation for progress. 'The HKTDC will continue to assist enterprises going global, deepen international exchange, strengthen industry connections, and facilitate substantive cooperation,' he said.
The cocktail reception was attended by Deputy Commissioner Li Yongsheng, Director-General Xu Weigang, Legislative Council President Starry Lee, Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law, and Acting Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Joseph Chan, among others.
In his address, Secretary for Justice Paul Lam noted the government's partnership with the HKTDC over six decades. 'In Chinese culture, 60 years represents the completion of a full cycle – it does not mark an end, but a beginning of a new cycle,' he said. 'After six decades of growth, wisdom and achievements, the time has come to welcome a new, and even more successful chapter.'
Looking ahead, the HKTDC will seize opportunities from the country's 15th Five-Year Plan, support government initiatives, and assist mainland enterprises in expanding overseas. It will provide tailored support for five major industry clusters: Finance and Professional Services; Global Network and Supply Chain; Technology and Digital Innovation; Wellness and Creative Industries; and Consumer Goods and Lifestyle.
The HKTDC, established in 1966, is a statutory body that promotes Hong Kong as a two-way global investment and business hub. With over 50 offices globally, including 13 in the Chinese Mainland, it organizes international exhibitions, conferences, and business missions to create opportunities for companies, particularly SMEs.
