Home watch operators managing dozens of properties across wide territories often struggle with inefficient daily routing, leading to wasted time and increased frustration. HomeLedger, the company behind the Watch Tower platform, has identified key areas where inefficiency creeps in and is addressing them with smarter routing and weather alert features.
Clem McDavid, founder and CEO of HomeLedger, notes that no two home watch companies operate the same way. Some divide their territory by day without a clear system, while others schedule too many time-consuming properties back-to-back or leave gaps because quick visits are grouped together. McDavid emphasizes that the solution often lies in data operators already possess but fail to utilize. If a system can show that a property reliably takes twenty minutes while another takes two hours, that information should shape the day's schedule rather than relying on habit or guesswork.
Watch Tower currently provides operators with alerts about weather occurring or recently occurring in their service areas. The goal, McDavid says, is awareness rather than full automation. Not every operator wants an optimized, algorithm-driven route, especially smaller ones managing a handful of clients. The platform is designed to offer more structure without imposing it.
The long-term vision is for weather data to actively influence scheduling and routing, prioritizing properties in a storm's path or flood-prone areas. For now, alerts alone often prompt operators to adjust their plans. McDavid recounts a customer on the Georgia coast who saw a weather alert and recognized the need to act, even though the alert hadn't yet altered the route. The value lies in surfacing critical information that might be missed during a busy day.
When explaining the cost benefit of automation, McDavid frames it around existing business expenses. He also raises the possibility of surge pricing tied to conditions like approaching hurricanes or extreme heat, which operators may incorporate into their contracts regardless of software. For now, Watch Tower includes routing and weather features as part of a single flat fee, with no extra charge. Operators gain access to these tools without additional cost, and those who don't need them aren't penalized.
HomeLedger is a technology company dedicated to the home watch industry. Its Watch Tower platform offers a unified system for scheduling, inspections, payments, and client communication. By integrating smarter routing and weather alerts, HomeLedger aims to help operators work more efficiently, saving time and improving service quality.
