The Nordex Group has received an order from Swedish renewable energy developer OX2 to supply and install 11 N175/6.X turbines for the Urleasca wind farm in Romania. The contract, which includes a 35-year Premium Service agreement, adds 77 MW of capacity and marks another significant step in Nordex's expansion in the region. The wind farm is slated for construction in Q3 2026, with commissioning expected in the second half of 2028.
The Urleasca project is a ready-to-build wind farm that OX2 has simultaneously sold to Scatec ASA, a Norwegian renewable energy solutions provider. OX2 will manage the entire construction phase, while the wind farm benefits from a long-term Contract-for-Difference (CfD) with the Romanian State, providing revenue stability. Located near the village of Urleasca in Brăila County, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Bucharest, the site is well-positioned to contribute to Romania's renewable energy targets.
Slava Feklin, Country Manager Romania and Ukraine at Nordex Group, commented, "We are delighted to further strengthen our transnational cooperation with OX2 – this time in Romania. The country continues to offer attractive opportunities for the deployment of modern wind energy technology. By combining OX2’s international project development expertise with our latest N175/6.X technology, all companies will deliver efficient and competitive renewable electricity to the Romanian market."
This order underscores Nordex's growing presence in Romania, where it has contracted more than 500 MW in the last few months. The company's advanced N175/6.X turbines are part of its product portfolio focused on onshore wind in the 4 to 7 MW+ classes, designed for markets with limited space and grid constraints. The 6 MW+ class turbines offer high efficiency and are well-suited for the Romanian landscape.
The Urleasca wind farm is part of a broader trend of renewable energy development in Eastern Europe, driven by supportive government policies and the need to diversify energy sources. Romania's CfD scheme provides long-term price guarantees, making projects like Urleasca attractive to investors and developers. This stability is crucial for financing and long-term planning, and it encourages the deployment of advanced wind technology.
For Nordex, this order reinforces its position as a leading wind turbine manufacturer with over 64 GW installed globally since 1985. The company reported consolidated sales of around EUR 7.6 billion in 2025 and employs more than 11,100 people. Its global manufacturing network includes factories in Germany, Spain, Brazil, India, Türkiye, and the USA, ensuring supply chain resilience and local support.
For the industry, this project highlights the continued growth of wind energy in emerging European markets. It also demonstrates the collaboration between developers like OX2 and technology providers like Nordex to deliver competitive renewable energy solutions. The involvement of Scatec as the owner underscores the international investment interest in Romanian renewables.
The Urleasca wind farm is expected to contribute significantly to Romania's renewable energy capacity, supporting the country's goals to reduce carbon emissions and increase the share of renewables in its energy mix. The project also creates economic opportunities, including jobs during construction and long-term service agreements.
As the renewable energy sector evolves, partnerships and advanced technologies will be key to meeting global climate targets. The Nordex-OX2 collaboration in Romania serves as an example of how cross-border cooperation can accelerate the energy transition. With the CfD providing financial certainty, the project is poised to deliver clean energy to the Romanian grid by 2028.
