Nordex Group Secures 82 MW Wind Orders for Citizen Energy Projects in Lower Saxony

The Nordex Group has received orders from the EFG Energy Farming Group to supply and install twelve wind turbines for several citizen wind projects in Lower Saxony, Germany. The projects, “Erlte-Endel” in the district of Vechta and the “Bad Essen” cluster in the district of Osnabrück, total approximately 82 MW. Each contract includes a 20-year Premium Service agreement, ensuring long-term operational support.

For the “Erlte-Endel” wind farm, Nordex will deliver five N175/6.X turbines mounted on hybrid towers with a hub height of 179 meters. The “Bad Essen” cluster will feature seven turbines: five N175/6.X on 179-meter towers and two N163/6.X turbines with a hub height of 164 meters. This cluster encompasses four projects: Langewiesen-Nord, Langewiesen-Süd, Rabber Wiesen, and the Wimmerbruch repowering project.

Construction is slated to begin at the end of 2026, with turbine installation in 2027 and commissioning planned for spring 2028. The wind farms are developed by EFG Energy Farming Group and will be operated by local landowners and regional citizen wind companies, emphasizing community involvement from the outset.

“With the wind farms in Erlte-Endel and Bad Essen, we are implementing two projects together with Nordex that demonstrate how wind energy use and regional value creation can go hand in hand,” said Reiner Borgmeyer, Managing Director of EFG Energy-Farming Holding GmbH. “Landowners and community energy companies have been involved from the outset, ensuring that the energy transition remains firmly anchored locally.”

Karsten Brüggemann, Vice President Region Europe of the Nordex Group, highlighted the strategic importance: “These two projects are exemplary of the successful combination of regional commitment and modern wind energy technology. Together with our long-standing customer, the EFG Energy Farming Group, we are creating wind farms that not only make an important contribution to the energy transition, but also enable reliable and sustainable electricity generation for many years to come thanks to their high efficiency.”

The orders underscore a growing trend in Germany toward citizen-owned renewable energy projects, which foster local economic benefits and public acceptance. By integrating advanced turbine technology with community participation, these projects serve as a model for decentralized energy transitions across Europe.

For Nordex, this deal reinforces its position in the onshore wind market, with a portfolio focused on 4 to 7 MW+ turbines designed for regions with limited space and constrained grid capacity. The company has installed over 64 GW globally and continues to expand its footprint in Germany, a key market for renewable energy growth.

The EFG Energy Farming Group, based in Bad Essen, has a long history of developing wind projects in Germany, supporting everything from site development to implementation in close cooperation with local stakeholders. This partnership with Nordex highlights the synergy between experienced developers and leading turbine manufacturers.

These projects are expected to provide substantial local economic benefits, including job creation during construction and long-term revenue for landowners and community energy companies. They also contribute to Germany's ambitious climate targets by increasing the share of renewables in the national energy mix.

As the world shifts toward sustainable energy, initiatives like these demonstrate how collaboration between technology providers and local communities can accelerate the transition while ensuring that the benefits are shared broadly. The successful execution of these projects could inspire similar models in other regions, promoting a more inclusive and resilient energy future.
