Kennedale, Texas, has opened its first dedicated dog park, Sturgeon Bark Park, thanks to a donation from Ron Sturgeon. Located at 6729 Oakcrest Drive East, the park offers a safe outdoor space for dogs to exercise, play, and socialize, while also serving as a gathering place for their owners.
The park features separate areas for large and small dogs, fire hydrants and toys for play, a water fountain, picnic tables, and a shaded canopy. These amenities were designed to meet the needs of both pets and their owners, providing comfort and convenience. The project was coordinated by Garret Davis of Davis Commercial Services, who brought the park from concept to completion.
During the grand opening ceremony, Kennedale City Manager Darrell Hull expressed gratitude, stating, 'I am so proud to accept and open our first dog park, and give heartfelt thanks to Mr. Sturgeon, as he gave us this for our citizens to enjoy with their pets, and for his help as we redevelop parts of the city.' The ribbon-cutting event was attended by Sturgeon, local representatives, community members, and many excited dogs.
The park addresses a significant gap in Kennedale's public amenities. Previously, residents had to travel outside the city to find a dedicated dog park. Now, they have a nearby destination where pets can run off-leash and owners can connect with neighbors. This addition is expected to enhance quality of life and encourage outdoor activity.
