ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Surpasses 2028 Carbon Intensity Target Three Years Early with 83.2% Renewables

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) today published its 2025 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, revealing that the Singapore-headquartered global data centre provider has achieved a 70.5% reduction in carbon intensity from its 2021 baseline, surpassing its 2028 target three years early. The report highlights 83.2% renewable energy usage, a 41.2% improvement in water usage effectiveness (WUE) from the 2020 baseline, and a 13.0% improvement in Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) to an average of 1.44. These results underscore how the company is balancing accelerating demand—particularly from AI-driven workloads—with responsible scaling.

Bruno Lopez, President and Group Chief Executive Officer, said, "The next phase of digital growth will be defined by how the industry resolves the tension between rising demand—particularly from AI—and the finite nature of energy, water and land. Responsible scaling is therefore not a sustainability commitment alone; it is a commercial and operational imperative." The report positions responsible growth as a core business discipline, linking sustainability performance to long-term asset resilience, customer trust, and operational excellence.

Key environmental achievements include 83.2% of electricity sourced from renewables, supporting the company's transition towards carbon-neutral operations by 2030, and a 15.2% year-on-year reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Water stewardship improved with WUE gains, and 48% of its data centres now hold green building certification. The company also maintained strong safety performance with zero work-related fatalities and a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of 0.1 across more than 41 million hours worked.

On the social front, STT GDC invested in workforce development, averaging 18 training hours per employee, and expanded talent initiatives like the DC Power Up programme and partnerships with 10 Institutes of Higher Learning. Women representation across the Group reached 21.7%. Governance was strengthened with 100% of employees completing anti-corruption training, and enhanced enterprise-wide risk management incorporating climate, cybersecurity, and operational risks.

The full 2025 ESG Report is available at https://www.sttelemediagdc.com/about-us/our-esg-progress. As data centre operators face growing expectations to deliver capacity while managing energy, water, climate, and cybersecurity risks, STT GDC's progress reflects disciplined execution of a long-term strategy. For business and technology leaders, the announcement signals that sustainable scaling is achievable and commercially viable, even as AI workloads accelerate resource consumption. The company's ability to cut carbon intensity ahead of schedule while expanding its platform offers a blueprint for the industry, potentially influencing how peers approach ESG integration, capital allocation, and operational design in the race to meet digital demand.
