The Supervisory Board of ams-OSRAM AG has approved a new contract for Chief Executive Officer Aldo Kamper, extending his tenure through September 30, 2031. The decision, announced on July 30, 2026, reflects the board's confidence in Kamper's leadership and the company's strategic direction. His previous term was set to expire on March 31, 2027. Kamper has served as CEO since April 2023.
Under Kamper's leadership, ams OSRAM has undergone a significant transformation. The company launched the "Re-establish the Base" efficiency program shortly after he took office, which focused on portfolio optimization and profitability improvement. Key achievements include streamlining group structures, assigning clear responsibilities to business units, and taking substantial measures to reduce debt. The sale of the non-optical sensing business was completed on July 1, 2026, establishing a sound financial foundation for growth in the optical core business and future areas such as augmented reality and data communication.
Dr. Margarete Haase, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board, stated: "As CEO, Aldo Kamper has strategically realigned ams OSRAM and laid the foundation for sustainable growth. Under his leadership, key milestones have been achieved - from the successful implementation of the 'Re-establish the Base' efficiency program to the strengthening of the financial base and the clear positioning of ams OSRAM in the attractive digital photonics field."
Kamper expressed gratitude for the board's trust and highlighted the team's accomplishments. "Together, we have established the basis for the next growth phase as a focused technology company. I look forward to continuing along this path with determination and further developing ams OSRAM as the leading company in the fast-growing field of digital photonics," he said.
Kamper's career at ams OSRAM spans decades. He began at OSRAM in Regensburg in 1994 and held various leadership roles in Europe and the United States in LED and specialty lighting. In 2010, he became CEO of the Opto Semiconductors business unit, where he pioneered microLED technology, dynamic front-end lighting, and high-performance LED roadmaps while expanding the global manufacturing footprint. He later served as CEO of Leoni AG before returning to ams OSRAM as CEO in 2023. Kamper holds a business administration degree from Maastricht University and an MBA from Stanford University.
The extension of Kamper's contract signals stability and continuity for ams OSRAM as it navigates the competitive landscape of digital photonics. The company, a global leader in innovative light and sensor solutions, generated EUR 3.3 billion in revenues in 2025 and employs approximately 18,500 people worldwide. With over 12,000 patents, ams OSRAM is positioned to capitalize on megatrends such as smart mobility, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and robotics.
For leaders in business and technology, this news underscores the importance of focused strategy and financial discipline in achieving sustainable growth. ams OSRAM's emphasis on digital photonics—encompassing augmented reality and data communication—highlights a key area of innovation that could reshape industries from automotive to consumer electronics. The company's strengthened balance sheet and clear strategic direction may provide a model for other firms seeking to pivot toward high-growth technologies.
