Humane Society Silicon Valley Names Nancy Willis President and Executive Director

Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) has announced the appointment of Nancy Willis as its President and Executive Director. Willis, who has served as Interim President since March 2026, brings a blend of animal welfare expertise and corporate leadership experience to the role, having been part of HSSV's leadership team since 2023.

Willis's tenure at HSSV has been marked by significant contributions across the organization. She has overseen Marketing, led the planning and execution of The Fur Ball fundraising gala, and most recently guided HSSV's response and rebuilding efforts following the December 2024 fire at its Milpitas Animal Community Center. Her appointment comes at a critical time as the organization embarks on its next phase of rebuilding and growth.

Peter Detkin, Chair of the HSSV Board of Directors, expressed confidence in Willis's leadership, stating, "Nancy has shown the judgment, resilience and collaborative leadership HSSV needs. She understands our organization, and the community we serve, and she has helped guide HSSV through one of the most challenging periods in its history. She is well positioned to lead the organization through its next phase of rebuilding and growth."

Willis's career path is diverse, with over 20 years in professional sports, including 15 years with Major League Baseball, before transitioning to the nonprofit sector in 2015. Her background includes extensive experience in leadership, marketing, fundraising, and event planning, skills that will be instrumental in her new role. Prior to joining HSSV, she served as Director of Development and Marketing at Maui Humane Society.

In her own words, Willis said, "I am deeply honored to lead Humane Society Silicon Valley and grateful for the trust the Board has placed in me. Over the past three years, I have seen firsthand the passion and dedication of the people who make HSSV what it is. We have an opportunity to build on that strength, deepen our impact and shape a future that reflects the full potential of this organization."

As President, Willis will guide HSSV through its rebuild while strengthening programs, operations, and its long-term ability to serve pets and people throughout the region. This leadership transition is pivotal for HSSV, which is an independent, privately funded nonprofit organization serving the Bay Area through adoptions, veterinary care, community programs, and regional rescue partnerships. The organization's mission to save lives, keep families together, and create a better future for pets and their people will be central to Willis's strategic direction.

This appointment signals stability for HSSV stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, and the community it serves. Willis's proven track record in navigating challenges and her deep understanding of the organization's culture and operations position her to lead effectively. The decision is likely to reassure supporters that HSSV is in capable hands as it works to recover from the devastating fire and continue its vital work in animal welfare.
