PNE Group, a German clean energy solutions provider, announced on August 5, 2026, the successful sale of two wind farm projects to a small group of private investors. The projects, 'Wulfsdorf A' in Schleswig-Holstein and 'Kuhstedt III' in Lower Saxony, have a combined nominal capacity of 45 megawatts (MW). Both are repowering projects, replacing older turbines with modern, more efficient technology, which significantly boosts renewable energy generation at existing sites.
The 'Wulfsdorf A' wind farm, located in the district of Ostholstein, will feature two Vestas V150 turbines (6.0 MW each) and two Vestas V162 turbines (6.2 MW each), totaling 24.4 MW. Construction is already underway, with commissioning expected in December 2026. The 'Kuhstedt III' wind farm, in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme), will have a capacity of 20.6 MW, comprising two Nordex N175 turbines (6.8 MW each) and one Nordex N163 turbine (7.0 MW). Construction is in progress, and commissioning is planned around the turn of 2026/27.
Together, these wind farms are expected to generate enough clean electricity to supply approximately 31,000 three-person households annually. Roland Stanze, COO of PNE AG, emphasized the strategic value of the transaction: "By selling 'Wulfsdorf A' and 'Kuhstedt III', we continue our successful marketing of high-quality wind farm projects. Both projects demonstrate the value of repowering: we are making more efficient use of existing sites, deploying modern and highly efficient turbine technology, and significantly increasing renewable energy generation. At the same time, the transaction underscores the attractiveness of our projects to investors."
The sale is part of PNE's ongoing asset rotation strategy, which has seen several disposals this year, including the 'Romescamps' wind farm in France (10.8 MW), the 'Bokel' wind farm in Germany (25.2 MW), a wind farm project in Poland (72 MW), and a photovoltaic project in Poland (approximately 40 MW). This trend highlights the growing investor appetite for renewable energy assets, particularly those with repowering potential.
Operational management of both wind farms will be provided by energy consult GmbH, a PNE Group company, ensuring PNE remains closely involved in their long-term performance. This sale underscores the importance of repowering in the transition to cleaner energy. By upgrading older turbines with more powerful models, developers can maximize output from established wind sites, reducing the need for new land and grid connections. For industry leaders, this transaction signals the financial viability of repowering projects and the increasing role of private capital in funding renewable energy infrastructure.
As the world accelerates its shift toward decarbonization, repowering existing wind farms offers a pragmatic path to increase renewable capacity while minimizing environmental and social impacts. PNE's successful sale demonstrates that such projects can attract investment, providing a template for other developers and investors looking to capitalize on the growing clean energy market.
